Jupiter Uranus Cycle | Jupiter Uranus Conjunction

Jupiter Uranus & Freedom of Expression

The influence of the Jupiter Uranus cycle has to do with freedom of expression on the highest level. Jupiter is one of the “legal” planets, and Uranus represents the expression of high creative ideas. When the two of them meld their energies, a need arises for the expression of the new, often of something in the civilization waiting to be born, as walking on the Moon embodied the new.

This can be a problem-solving synod. In government, when a difficulty arises, when a solution is needed, new solutions can be found drawing on the energies of this synod.

This synod, joining the elements of Jupiter and Uranus, can last, when it is within one degree of orb, as little as a week to ten days. If it occurs during the retrograde cycle of Jupiter or Uranus, it can last for as long as eight months. Thus some of these synods exert an extremely powerful influence, while others come and go leaving behind moderately negligible effects. If it is found in the natal chart or an ascent to power chart of a player in history, it will of course influence his or her entire career.

In May 1941 a JU/UR occurred at 25° Taurus, but was partile (within 1 degree) only from the third through the twelfth of that month. It did not return for fourteen years. In May of 1955, the synod returned and was partile from the eighth through the sixteenth, and again, it did not return for another fourteen years. It would only be important in the natal chart of those born in these periods.

Its arrival can force a change in the laws, in the status quo, and the new energy created can become a major theme in the life of a people. Uranus also rules science, at least that part of science which involves discovery of the new, and when combined with the Jupiter influence, the resulting energy can signal scientific breakthroughs.

In December 1968, JU/UR became partile (3° Libra), and remained a working synodic conjunction through August of 1969. During this period the synod moved from 6° Libra, then back into late Virgo, then forward again into early Libra. Richard Nixon was elected on the synod (Nov 5, 1968: 28° Virgo 06’; 02° Libra 12’) then sworn in as president on this synod (JU: 60 LI 03’Rx; UR: 3°LI 57’Rx).

Jupiter Uranus Cycle: Apollo Saturn Moon Landing

Dec 1, 1968: Jupiter at 02° Libra 08′; Uranus at 03° Libra 20′
Nov 5, 1968: Jupiter at 28° Virgo 06′; Uranus at 02° Libra 12′
Jan 20, 1969: Jupiter at 06° Libra 03′ Rx; Uranus at 03° Libra 57′ Rx
July 20,1969: Jupiter at  00° Libra 37′; Uranus at 00° Libra 40′

The Apollo-Saturn-11 Moon Landing, when astronauts walked on the surface of the Moon for the first time in history, occurred on July 20, 1969, when the synod was at zero degrees Libra (July 20, 1969: Jupiter: 00° Libra 37’; Uranus: 00° Libra 40’). This was a revolutionary event in history.

The Jupiter Uranus conjunction exactly squared America’s (1776) Venus/Jupiter. Jupiter in a nation’s chart rules its foreign policy. The synodic square is the most energetic of historical activators. Richard Nixon’s ascent to power chart features this Jupiter/Uranus synod. One of Nixon’s historical achievements was to open relations with China. China was slipping gradually into a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Nixon—despite having to work secretly over the opposition of many in his administration—opened diplomatic relations with China; this diplomacy grew into a defacto alliance and remained one for years. It created a balance of power between the US, the Soviet Union, and China and thereby brought about a general peace on the globe. It also enabled Nixon to wind down the Vietnam War. This rare synod affected the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

Amazing advances in astronomy were achieved in 1969. On Jan. 20, an announcement of the first optical identification of a pulsar was published by astronomers at the University of Arizona. On Feb. 25 and on March 27 (Jupiter opposed the Sun exactly on 3/21/69 at 1°), during the Jupiter astronomic opposition, two Mariner probes were sent to Mars, and they both sent back the first close-up high resolution photographs of that planet. These new contributions to astronomical knowledge were typical of the JU/UR synod.

In 1981 in America, a new group of people came to power. Jupiter/Saturn synod would conjunct the Saturn of the US chart (1776). The U.S. entered a far more conservative period than the previous twenty had been. It was known as the Reagan Era. Government policy was formed by a new philosophy. Fights occurred in the media and in the congress concerning what the “truth” was. The Census Bureau reported that in that year the “poverty level” had grown by a million people. Other political thinkers challenged these figures, and a battle raged about whether many supposedly in “poverty” were really that poor.

At this time the U.S. began pulling itself out of the hibernation which had existed from the end of the Vietnam War, and began to involve itself in Central American revolutions, the Afghan resistance to the Soviet Union, and peace attempts in the Middle East. The Jupiter Uranus cycle is not a synod that fosters hibernation. Philosophical debates about this involvement in revolutions and world affairs then raged between the new people who were taking over and those who had been in power for many years.

On June 23, 1983, when Uranus was at 6° and Jupiter was at 3° Sagittarius, the Supreme Court ruled on a piece of legislation passed by Congress called the “legislative veto”. This veto allowed Congress to overrule actions by Federal agencies. The Supreme Court declared the “legislative veto” unconstitutional—an illegal incursion by the legislative branch onto the power of the executive. In my opinion, this ruling protected the balance of powers as it was originally structured by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution. It was a typical JU/UR event; it preserved the freedom to create, to express.

In April of that year, under the 1983 Jupiter Uranus conjunction,  (UR at 8° Sagittarius; Jupiter at 9° Sagittarius), the Carnegie Commission released its report on the condition of American public education, showing that test scores in high schools were lower than in 1957, and that “a rising tide of mediocrity” infected the whole educational system. The synod occurring in an educational sign, Sagittarius would imply that, if there were problems in the educational system, people would now start to become aware of these problems. While people have been aware of that problem ever since, public education has continued to deteriorate. The awareness happened then; the solution will require different energies.
